New Hampshire appears to be teetering on the edge of insanity, fueled by far-right ideology. We have a Republican legislator who is advocating secession from the United States and another Republican legislator who insists that the vaccines insert little creatures with tentacles inside of us. Our far-right Republican legislature has reduced funding for public education, sending monies to private education and homeschoolers. Charter schools and homeschoolers are not bound by long-existing educational standards. Students aren’t required to perform at adequate levels. Property taxes are soaring. We have a Republican legislature that has eviscerated a woman’s control over her body, virtually removing her choice to terminate a pregnancy.

We have a far-right Republican legislature that scoffs at the deadly seriousness of the pandemic, eschewing mask and vaccine mandates, resulting in being first in the nation in per capita level of COVID infections. That same legislature mandates that schools may not teach accurate history, that we must avoid mention of the virtual genocide of Native American first citizens or the atrocities of slavery. Racism is being whitewashed, by law. We cannot and will not permit that. We must do better job of vetting those whom we elect. This past election, we did a horrible job. We elected representatives and senators who have skewed views of reality, who are anti-science, who don’t value truth or accuracy. Let’s do a better job next time around so that we can be proud of our representation rather than aghast and embarrassed.
