Here is a look at the February programs at Belmont Public Library.
The Winter Reading program is underway and some lucky readers have already won prizes! You can still register for winter reading, and there are new raffles every week. Just go to the Belmont Public Library website and click on the polar bear for more information. We will be holding a Valentine’s Day readathon to boost our reading hours. Come in to the library on Feb. 12 to snuggle up with hot chocolate and a good book. We will have some cozy places to read, and Ms. Emily will be reading stories in the Children’s room. Wear something comfy and consider bringing your own blanket or pillow!
Winter programs continue this month, with two weekly storytimes, Crafternoon Fridays, and two tween and teen clubs. Movie Club is a bi-weekly program for tweens and teens that love film. In this club, participants watch, discuss, and create movies. If your tween or teen is interested in creative writing or editing films, this is a great program to try. Dates and times are on the library website.
The Friends of the Library are hosting a Valentine Raffle with two prizes: dinner for two at a local Asian restaurant, and a basket of themed card making supplies. Tickets are only a dollar per try. The drawing is Feb. 9.
The non-fiction book group is centered on Norwich: one tiny Vermont town’s secret to happiness and excellence by Karen Crouse. New York Times reporter and “gifted storyteller” Karen Crouse spills Norwich’s secret to raising not just better athletes than the rest of America but happier, healthier kids. And while these “counterintuitive” lessons were honed in the New England snow, parents across the country will find that “Crouse’s message applies beyond a particular town or state” (The Wall Street Journal). The discussion is set for Thursday Feb. 10 at 1 p.m. Our Friday Fiction book group meets on Feb. 18 at 10:30 a.m. to discuss The snow child by Eowyn Ivey. In this magical debut, a couple’s lives are changed forever by the arrival of a little girl, wild and secretive, on their snowy doorstep. Both book group titles are available at the library and we welcome hybrid attendance.
The library will be closed Feb. 21 for the Presidents’ Day holiday.
The Belmont Public Library is open six days a week and any time online at belmontpubliclibrary.org, serving the community with books, digital resources, and cultural programming.
