I read with interest letters to the editor regarding Israel and the Palestinians. Former President and Nobel Peace Prize winner Jimmy Carter a long time ago called what Israel is doing to Palestinians apartheid. Now we have Amnesty International calls the situation apartheid after an investigation. They state that the Israeli state maintains โ€œan institutionalized regime of oppression and domination of the Palestinian population for the benefit of the Jewish Israelisโ€.

Apartheid is considered a crime against humanity under international law. Until Israel either accepts the Palestinians fully into the state of Israel or grants the Palestinians full independence as a separate state, it is apartheid. The current situation is unacceptable as it is now. I think it is in the long-term interests of Israel to solve this problem for their sake and for the sake of future world peace.
