Regarding the “Traffic a concern for the proposed complex” story, (Monitor, 3/6) I couldn’t agree more. I believe it’s short-sighted to build such a traffic-generating complex, effectively at the intersection of I- 89 and I-93, especially since the only possible exit is onto adjacent Logging Hill Rd. This small area is already oversubscribed with current traffic volume. The plan calls for 260 living units. Two cars/unit could be 520 cars. 400 vehicles coming and going twice a day should be fair to say.
Additionally, there would be vehicles associated with the proposed R&D buildings and the additional 10,000-square-foot proposed retail and commercial space, all of this crammed into a hemmed-in space. The quote from Flatley, the developer, in the article about their first proposal: “We had buildings that were 50-200 feet from houses.” Why not make something small and simple (post office, small general store) and be pleased that there is ample opportunity for shopping already around Bow? If this project were east of 3A off River Rd, it might be absorbed, but 3A is already busy enough, e.g, experience 3A and the Hackett Hill intersection (on/off 93) at rush hour. Nearby, the state intends to increase the width of I-93 through Concord to accommodate increasing traffic. There’s too much traffic on 89 and 93 on the big four-season weekends for residents and visitors. We need less, not more. This proposed development compounds an already overburdened area.
