A recent letter to the editor differentiating between spending on city pools and the Beaver Meadow Golf course made a number of assertions that may not be entirely accurate. The writer states the additional spending on the golf course is to generate revenue to cover costs. The hiring of a full time assistant pro to replace a part time position may or may not cover the additional costs. What is clear, is the golf course continues to not be able to fully fund costs associated with the running of the golf course. Costs associated with tree removal and irrigation continue to be paid for out of the general fund using your property taxes.

Over the past few years the golf course has used general obligations bonds in the hundreds of thousands of dollars to fund the above items. And in the city’s budget, under capital improvement projects (cip #235), the golf course is anticipated to continue using general obligation bonds (your tax dollars) to finance irrigation, tree removal, and hiring a golf course architect. That’s $385,000 in 2022; $310,000 in 2023; $310,000 in 2024; $400,000 in 2025 and $400,000 in 2026. This doesn’t include the anticipated cost of a new clubhouse (cip #107) for $3.9 million.
