Ms. Hariett Cady, first let me say that I am sorry for the loss you have suffered. No parent should ever have to bury a child. But in this country it happens quite often, and frequently in gun related incidents.

The vast majority of people who would like to see some form of gun control are not interested in taking away any guns from law abiding citizens. For example, background checks would not take away guns, a 24- or 48-hour waiting period would not take away any guns, limiting the size of magazines would not take away any guns.

Raising the age to own a semi automatic weapon would align with the age to buy beer and buy cigarettes, that doesnโ€™t really seem too outrageous.

And explain this please โ€“ why is the Second Amendment the only right that seems to have no equal restrictions or responsibilities? And what part does the phrase โ€œwell regulated militiaโ€ play in this debate. How many times when extremists are shouting about their right to keep and bear arms they stop just short of that โ€œwell regulated militia.โ€

No, we donโ€™t ban cars because of accidents but we require seatbelts and other safety standards. We donโ€™t ban drugs but they are regulated. No system is perfect and gun regulations would not stop all crimes but they might stop death by gun shots as the leading cause of death for children in this country .
