Powerhouse Theatre Collaborative is excited to present its first big summer production Seussicalthe Musical this August on the Colonial Theatre stage.
Over 40 cast and crew members have been hard at work rehearsing this fun-for-all-ages musical that features many of Dr. Seuss’ best-loved characters including The Cat in the Hat, Horton the Elephant, Gertrude McFuzz, the Grinch and many more. Seussical will be presented Aug. 12 to 14.
Seussical’s plot mostly comes from the adventures of Horton the Elephant from the books Horton Hears a Who and Horton Hatches an Egg. Mischief is made by the Cat in the Hat with his henchmen, Thing 1 and Thing 2. The action alternates between Horton’s home in the Jungle of Nool and microscopically on the Planet of Who where a little Who boy named Jojo and his family and friends deal with the difficulties of life on a speck of dust!
Seussical was crafted by the team of Lynn Ahrens and Stephen Flaherty with help from Eric Idle. With catchy songs, colorful costumes, and the inspired words of Dr. Seuss, this musical will have something for everyone to enjoy!
Seussical will be directed by Bryan Halperin. Karina Allayne is the musical director and Jenna Rogato is the choreographer. Sherry Gardner is the stage manager, assisted by Phoebe Scadova. Gay Bean and Paula Arocena are costuming, set design is by Melissa Shakun, props by Johanna Halperin, set construction by Jim Scadova, and lighting and sound provided by TS Event Productions.
The large cast includes kids and adults and is led by Fran Page as Cat, Ben Hunton as Horton, and Maci Johnson as Jojo.
“Seussical once again has a delightful mix of returning Powerhouse faces and newcomers,” said Halperin. “We are happy to always welcome new participants into our shows – this is the beauty of inclusive, high-quality community theatre. And this group will be sure to make you smile this August as you watch them perform on the Colonial stage.”
Tickets are $18 students, $20 seniors, $22 adults. For more information and to get tickets, visit belknapmill.org/seussical.
