To a significant portion of American society former president Trump is still their political champion. They hold fast to the belief that the 2020 presidential election was stolen from him. He is supported in this by a political and financial base of diverse action groups. To be a Republican candidate in the current primaries and the nearing mid-terms one must win the allegiance of the Proud Boys, Oath Keepers, evangelicals, white supremacists and anti-abortion advocates, among others.
Each has their battleground agenda from the control of democratic elections to the control of the bodies of women. Given the ever more apparent discovery of a very real coup attempt by former president Trump and his associates there is significant cause for concern. Abortion restrictions, even prohibitions, are already in place at some state levels. Control of election procedures are already on the ballots in many states as are the Republican candidates who will enforce them. The battle lines are drawn, this is real. Strange, the historical reference to โPyrrhic Victoryโ comes into play. What will American democracy and the rights of women be like if the forces of โcontrolโ win? Yes, it would be a โPyrrhic Victory.โ
