Were Governor Chris Sununu and Attorney General John Formella on the jury of the trial regarding the tragic deaths of seven motorcyclists in 2019 in Randolph? The verdict is not their decision to make unless they were on the jury. Expressing an opinion, no matter how many people may share the view, is not appropriate unless, at the very least, you were present during the entirety of the proceedings. The procedure for questioning the verdict is an appeal.
Does Chris Sununu understand the separation of powers between the executive and judicial branches of government? Perhaps he needs to review basic civics. For the executive branch to make judicial decisions is dictatorship, and public questioning of a verdict is utterly disrespectful of the jurors as well as dismissive of our form of government. I find it frightening to have a governor who appears not fully to believe in the American system of government. As the attorney general of New Hampshire, I am puzzled and appalled that John Formella seems to disrespect the very system that he leads. Perhaps he needs to resign if he does not truly believe in the American Judicial system, a key component of which is the sanctity of a jury trial.
