President Kennedy famously stated “Ask not what your country can do for you – ask what you can do for your country” and inspired a nation to embrace public service for the betterment of all. Years later a more selfish nation agreed with the Clinton campaign’s message “It’s the economy, stupid!” and went on to defeat a war hero president. Today, the upcoming election amounts to no less than an existential crisis for the country. Do we embrace the former president’s party, most of whom along with the most watched “news” network, have deceived many into believing that (only) the previous presidential election was stolen? This without a shred of evidence and only lawsuits for lying to show for it.
Do we elect more of those who have enacted voter suppression laws and deviously plot to outright overturn the will of the people by state legislatures? Will this great nation perish from the earth? Certainly the other big issue for the midterms is inflation which is impacting the average American’s pocketbook. A simplistic approach, pushed hard by the liars, implores the voters to elect them to fix it. But, even assuming that were true, you must ask yourself which is more important, a few dollars more or saving American democracy? The answer lies at the bottom of the Crimean Sea with a Russian oligarch who fell out of favor with the former president’s trusted friend: Putin. This election’s mantra must be, “It’s the country, stupid! Vote Democrat for democracy”.
