■The Bow Garden Club, in cooperation with the Baker Free Library, will present “Books In Bloom” at the Baker Free Library on Sept. 30 (4 to 7 p.m.) and Oct. 1 (10 a.m. to 3 p.m.) in the lower level with light refreshments provided. “Books In Bloom” is an exhibit featuring individual floral designs created to reflect a particular book. Volunteer floral arrangers will draw their inspiration from some aspect of the book they have have chosen to reflect–its title, a particular character in the book, the book jacket, etc. All arrangements will feature fresh and/or dried plant material. This exhibit is open to the public and is free. Come to enjoy this colorful display and vote for your favorite! Any Bow resident interested to creating a design to add to the exhibit should send an email to booksinbloom@bowgardenclub.org. The Bow Garden Club members will present a brief demonstration on Sept. 20 at 6:30 p.m., also in the lower level of the Library, to provide guidance to anyone interested in entering their own floral arrangements for the exhibit. There will be a live demonstration and slides of floral and book arrangements from past “Books In Bloom” events will be featured. ■Old Home Day (OHD) kicked off with a rousing parade led by Dunbarton’s American Legion Post 116 along with the Sons of the American Revolution Honor Guard with Gen. John Stark. The Wreaths Across Dunbarton Float included Flags Around Dunbarton, whose flags line Stark Highway. The Dunbarton Garden Club followed and promoted their Giant Mum Sale scheduled for Sept. 8 to 11 with special three Mums for $20, the same prices as last year! Marchers varied from the Library’s story time group, Cub Scout Pack 75, to the robotics team from Bow/Dunbarton and their basketball shooting robot. There were plenty of antique cars, trucks, and tractors, plus the favorite Guinea Road Tractor Club. Also many horses and riders from the Thorberchon Farm in town joined in. The Dunbarton Fire Department trucks and the Dunbarton Police cruisers ended the parade. The rest of the day was fun for everyone. The oldest citizen with the Boston Cane was Gerry Baillargeon and the newest was Adam Snyder. The 2nd Regiment Nevers Band and Liz Ferdina and Friends provided our musical entertainment. Once again, the OHD committee’s hamburgers and hot dogs were sold at old-fashioned prices and were a big hit for families. The Pie Baking contest was a success for the three categories, and at 2 p.m., town officials served free ice cream and pie. Many thanks to the committee and participants for a memorable day. ■No school on Sept. 5 to celebrate the Labor Day Holiday. Town Offices will be close on Sept. 5 to celebrate the Labor Day Holiday. The Building Department will be closed from Sept. 5 to 9. Electrical, gas/mechanical, and plumbing permits will be available at the Selectmen’s Office. All other permits will be handled when the office re-opens.
■The Supervisor of the Checklist will hold a session for Correction of the Checklist on Sept. 7 at 4 p.m. at the Town Office. No additions or corrections shall be made to the Checklist after this session until NH State Primary Election Day, Sept. 13.
■Virtual Program by Erin Moulton: Calling All Weavers, Coopers, Vampers and Wheelwrights: “Let’s Explore Your Ancestor’s Occupation!” Scheduled for Sept. 8 at 6:30 p.m. and presented by the Dunbarton Library. Exploring your ancestor’s occupation can give you great insights into their daily existence, but how do we go beyond the standard vital records, census records and city directories? ■Students at Harold Martin School leaned into science while helping find and relocate eight baby snapping turtles. These little turtles hatched in the field near the playground and were found all around the building – including in the water grate! Thankfully, the Hopkinton Highway Department answered the call and came down to help rescue the babies. A huge thank you to everyone who helped find and relocate the turtles and Ms. Nichols’ class for their turtle scooping invention!
■Thanks to the Hopkinton Public Schools Foundation, Todd Olkonen and his crew (Bob, Greg and Shawn), Summit Olkonen, Jake Barrett and his dad, and Craig for creating the outdoor classroom at Harold Martin School. To earn his Eagle Scout Merit Award, Jake Barrett built the pergola, which offers flexibility in how and when the classroom is used. We are excited to add the raised beds, mud kitchen, and other elements as they become available.

■“A Panorama of Haitian Art” with Judith Kumin will be on Sept. 29 at 7 p.m. at the Hopkinton Town Library. Contoocook Resident Judith Kumin, will present key moments in the evolution of Haitian art from the beginning of the 20th century onwards. She will share some of the discoveries she made while doing research for a biography of the Haitian modernist painter Roland Dorcely (1931 to 2017), including his unexpected connections of the Upper Valley region of New Hampshire.
