Bill Bunker’s August 25th letter is an attempt to cast the NH Republican Party as respectable. But, recent television ads by Republican Party candidates, for House and Senate in Washington, leave something to be desired: credulity. Baxter wants to trash the IRS, Mowers and Leavitt worked for Trump, Morse worries about the border, I could go on, but you get the picture: not much thought about future governing. Sending any of these Republicans to Washington, where former President Trump is in charge of the Republican Party would be a disaster. We are very fortunate, now, that our Congressional delegation is all Democrat.
Anyway, Bunker takes exception to my statement that “evangelicals and rich corporatists” sponsors the Republican Party. Forbes American Richest 50 shows 14% support Democrats, 56% support Republicans, and 30% support both. Billionaires give more to Republicans during presidential election cycles, but give more to Democrats during midterm elections. Which in the past balanced Congress midterm against the president. I should also point out that Organization of American Historians states, “…it was not until the late 1970s and 1980s that white conservative evangelicalism became fused with the GOP.” So, not only am I very happy to no longer be a member of the NH Republican Party, I strongly suggest that any current members should abandon it as soon as possible.
