Recently (Monitor, 10/12) Mr. Mayotte of Sanbornton wrote, “I can’t find Letters to the Editor on what Biden has accomplished.” Well, Mr. Mayotte, here’s one. The biggest thing President Biden has accomplished has been getting Congress to actually do something besides pass a tax law that benefited only the wealthy (see former guy’s accomplishments).
Let’s see: Imposed a 15% global tax on huge corporations, who often get away with paying nothing; signed the Infrastructure and Jobs Act finally aiming to fix deteriorating roads and bridges, improve drinking water, address climate change and more; signed the CHIPS Act bringing thousands of jobs back to the U.S. and reducing our reliance on China; signed the Inflation Reduction Act to, among other things, negotiate drug prices for Medicare and bolster the IRS enforcement division (and not one Republican voted in favor of this); passed the Postal Reform Act, saving the Post Office billions. Shall I go on? Because there’s more. Most of these measures will help the poor, the disabled, the continually-ignored American citizens who live on the margin every day. No Republicans voted in favor, but watch them take credit when money starts flowing into their states.
