“Pay no attention to the man behind the curtain,” says the Wizard of Oz. “Pay no attention to the elephant in the womb,” say the Republican candidates. The NH GOP would have you believe abortion is not on the ballot. But let’s pull aside that curtain. Did you know there was a bill last session that would ban abortion after only six weeks? At six weeks most women don’t even know they’re pregnant. This bill was supported by 143 legislators, including my Weare Representative Leah Cushman, who is running for a second term.
Is anyone naive enough to believe a six-week ban won’t reappear like the flying monkeys of Oz if the Republicans retain their majority? This is not a dream where Dorothy returns home and lives happily ever after. This is a nightmare that has already become a reality for far too many women in this country. If you care about women’s rights, please vote blue on November 8.
