The NHIAA singles and doubles tournaments took place over the past week, with tennis players from Bow High School and Kearsarge Regional High School competing in matches at Southern New Hampshire University, The Derryfield School and Memorial Field.
Capital Area players went the farthest in the boysโ singles and doubles tournaments with Bowโs Dom Jurcins and Cy Yvars, and Kearsargeโs Liam Miller and Davis West making the quarterfinals.
Jurcins, a senior, was seeded seventh in the boysโ singles tournament, picking up victories over Nashua Southโs Atul Phadke, 9-7, in the opening round, and Bishop Guertinโs Gavin Bombara, 8-1, in the Round of 16, before falling to No. 4 Logan Mack of Bedford in the final eight, 8-2.
Fellow senior Yvars also made the quarterfinals, the only non-seeded player to make the final eight, earning victories over Oyster Riverโs Shashu Srivatsan, 8-0, and Lebanonโs Will Katz, 8-5, in the first two rounds. Yvars fell to Bedfordโs Lucas Mack โ the third seed, 8-1 in the quarters.
Kearsarge sophomore Liam Miller defeated a player from Monadnock in the opening round, 8-3, before falling to Bishop Guertinโs Nick Xie, 8-3, in the Round of 16.
Kearsarge senior Davis West fell to Oyster Riverโs John Henry, 8-4 in the opening round.
Lebanonโs Nolan Arado went on to win the boysโ singles title, while Winnacunnetโs Polina Makarenko won the title in the girlsโ singles tourney, which did not have any area competitors.
In the boysโ doubles tournament, Jurcins and Yvars were seeded No. 6, and Miller and West were seeded No. 7, with both pairs advancing to the quarterfinals.
The Kearsarge pair defeated Srivatsan and Henry, 8-6, in the opening round while the Bow pair had a bye.
Jurcins and Yvars defeated Tyler Dionne and Cody Neff of Goffstown, 8-5, in the second round before falling to Derryfieldโs Davey and Jack Schroeder, 8-4, in the quarterfinals.
West and Miller beat a pair from Gilford, 8-0, in the Round of 16, and lost to Katz and Arado, 8-4, in the quarterfinals.
Bow had two pairs selected for the girlsโ doubles state tournament. Sophomores Jaden Glace and Grace Modzeleski fell to Oyster Riverโs Maggie Farwell and Sofie Gibson, 8-0, while sophomore Katie McCabe and senior Sudy Chakraborty lost to Souheganโs Caroline Drum and Tess Jancar, 8-1, in the first round.
