I am stunned, but not totally surprised, at the unfeeling, inhumane and outrageous actions by the new administration in the White House. Shutting down USAID, which is one of our best defenses against those who wish to harm the United States, is also just plain stupid. Our medicine and food programs alone are saving many lives in other countries and serve to project an image of the U.S. as a kind and caring country. The vacuum will no doubt be filled by China and Russia. I am heartened to see the outpouring of activity across the country in protest of these idiotic decisions. Also: Allowing an unelected private billionaire to have access to our private information in the Treasury database is just incomprehensible, and should be soundly rejected by all of us.
