Concord Police are investigating the source of a pile of trash placed next to the Exit 13 on-ramp of I-93 some time Wednesday.

“We are not sure who dumped those items there. Concord Police officers are looking into this as illegal dumping,” said Angelina Zulkic, communications coordinator for the city.

The debris should be removed by Friday.

The pile was sitting on the grass island between the traffic lanes for vehicles getting onto the northbound lanes of the Interstate. The heap includes numerous filled trash bags, a laundry basket, various debris, and multiple metal shopping carts.

Zulkic noted that the trash did not come from nearby Healy Park, which is the target of cleanup efforts by volunteers and the city. The park is often used by people experiencing homeless.

Across the river, wooded debris has been removed along Black Hill Road where a mixed use-construction project has been planned for several years.

The sudden heap of bags led some people to contact the Monitor to find out what was happening in the area.
