Bicentennial Square came alive on Monday afternoon with Wine on Main’s third annual Day of Celebration ahead of The Dave Matthews Band’s performance in Gilford.
Children ran around and climbed on the fountain. People sat in the shade and listened to Concord musician Kevin Horan play from underneath a tent. Passers-by stopped to browse at La Mia Mano Jewelry’s stall, purchased locally-made Dave Matthews Band merchandise from East Coast Caravan and ate hot dogs from Granite State Glizzys.
Emma Stetson, owner of Wine on Main and a big follower of the band, decided to take advantage of the crowd of fans flocking to New Hampshire.
“For Dave fans, it’s an opportunity to meet each other before we all go to the shows,” Stetson said. “And just for Concord, the community, business owners or people on their lunch break, we have something fun and summery with activities and a wine tasting. It’s like a celebration of summer, too.”
The event began as an indoor wine tasting in its first year. Last summer, Stetson expanded to hold the celebration outdoors in the square. This year, she added vendors and even got Blossom Yoga & Wellness to host a yoga class.
“We realized so many people are in town ahead of time on Monday, so it’s a great opportunity to throw an event and get everybody together,” she added.
Capital City Tattoos offered a selection of Dave Matthews and New Hampshire-themed tattoos across the street, and later that same evening, Penuche’s hosted Dave Matthews Band trivia. The party also had a raffle whose proceeds went to children’s advocate organization CASA of New Hampshire.
“It kind of just grew partially intentionally, partially just other community partners getting onboard,” Stetson said.
