To pass President Trump’s omnibus government funding bill, the Senate used some accounting tricks to hide the $3 trillion that this bill will add to the national debt. Why did they use tricks to make this look more palatable? Why are we adding an extra $3 trillion to our debt load? Where are the debt hawks that are usually associated with the Republican Party?
We’re already spending that money. That’s like a regular person saying to themselves that since they spent $1,000 last month on a car repair, they should just continue spending an additional $1,000 a month, each month.
Why are they doing this? Because their big daddy in the White House says so. They’ve forgotten their role as representing the people of their states. It’s better to appease the president. It’s been often said, but bears repeating, this is what happens in authoritarian or fascist countries. It’s not their constitutional role.
So, we’ll add another $3 trillion of debt to our national credit card. Given this country’s current arbitrary tariff strategy in addition to just loading on the debt, maybe investors will want more of a return on their T-Bills? This would mean paying out more which in turn would mean continuing the debt load for longer and longer. Senators and Congress people understand this but are ignoring it! I say to the Republican Party, wake up from your fascist hypnosis and return to your roots and constitutional duties.
