Medicaid cuts to immediately impact healthcare services
On July 4, 2025, President Trump signed into law the “Big [not so] Beautiful Bill,” which includes immediate attacks on Planned Parenthood health centers across the nation. While major cuts to Medicaid are set to take effect after the 2026 congressional elections, Planned Parenthood is already being directly impacted. Nearly 200 health centers across the country may be forced to close their doors, including those serving Granite Staters.
In New Hampshire, Planned Parenthood of Northern New England provides essential reproductive and preventive health services — such as birth control, cancer screenings, STI testing and treatment, and routine check-ups — regardless of a patient’s income or insurance status. The federal government’s decision to “defund” Planned Parenthood will hurt thousands of New Hampshire residents, especially low-income individuals and families who rely on these clinics for affordable care.
The consequences are real. Without access to birth control, we’ll see an increase in unintended pregnancies. Without cancer screenings, more people will go undiagnosed until later, costlier, and more dangerous stages. Without STI testing and treatment, diseases will spread more quickly within our communities. These impacts are already happening and will only worsen when the larger Medicaid cuts take effect in 2026. This is unacceptable. We must act now. Contact Governor Ayotte and tell her to defend funding for Planned Parenthood. Reach out to your state legislators and demand they protect affordable healthcare for everyone.
