If you prefer classic instrumental music or lean more toward emo rock or just enjoy supporting local musicians, the Concord area has you covered this weekend. Along with some outdoorsy and crafty activities, this week is pulled together by a shared love of music.
This weekend, you could start planning your holiday presents early at a craft fair in Rollins Park or let your kids run around a sunflower field for an easy bedtime before heading out to an emo concert on Saturday night. The opportunities are endless!

Friday, August 8
As the week comes to an end, celebrate the upcoming weekend at the Waterhouse Irish Pub in Franklin from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. with a meal and traditional Irish music. Known as a traditional Irish music session, referencing an Irish gathering to share music, the pub invites everyone to enjoy the celtic classics.
Saturday, August 9
If instrumental music is your vibe, continue the fun with a free cello performance at the Concord Public Library from 12 to 1 p.m. As part of the Concord Community Music School’s Concord Classic Concert series, cello instructors, Jan Fuller and Harel Giethiem, will show off their string instrument skills.
The Concord Arts Market will host its monthly Arts in the Park event at Rollins Park if you’re looking for more artsy activities. Don’t worry, the park will be filled with crafts and art from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. so you’ll be able to go before or after the cello performance. There’s something for everyone with over 60 local independent artists, activities, live music and food trucks.
Before you leave the house, grab some cans to donate to the food drive in the park for Project S.T.O.R.Y. Summer Youth Services, a non-profit working to empower young people from culturally diverse backgrounds.
At night, travel back to the peak 2000s with the annual Emo Night Concord at the Eagle Square Atrium. There will be live renditions of your favorite dramatic emo and pop-punk songs performed by the Heely & The Moon Shoes and A Blockbuster Summer, as well as vendors like NH Vintage Vinyl and Lustshroom, Etc.
Live Free or Cry and Kinetic City Events welcomes anyone 21 years or older to rock out and enjoy a drink at Tandy’s Pub and Grille for a $10 cover charge at 8 p.m.
If you can find the time on Saturday, join Sunfox Farm in Concord for their fifth Annual Sunflower Bloom Festival from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. But if you’re too busy enjoying the cello, shopping for crafts or plan to rock and roll all night, the festival also takes place on Sunday, August 10 and the following weekend at the same time. There’s definitely a way to make time for it all!
Picking sunflowers is the main attraction of the festival with 20 acres to explore and bouquets to create. After picking flowers for $2 a stem, you can take a look at the local small business vendors, taste the food selection from the assortment of food trucks and enjoy the local musicians performing. Entry costs $10 per adult.
