Authorities recovered the body of an adult male from Lake Winnipesaukee on Tuesday morning near the Long Island shoreline by Moultonborough. The man is believed to be Forrest Wells, a missing 76-year-old from Virginia.

At 8:19 p.m. on Monday evening, New Hampshire State Police Marine Patrol received notification of a missing person, later identified as Wells. According to officials, Wells was believed to have been swimming in Lake Winnipesaukee near Long Island.

Moultonborough Fire Rescue, Moultonborough Police Department, Tuftonboro Police Department, New Hampshire Fish and Game, and Troopers with the State Patrol assisted Marine Patrol on Monday night with extensive search efforts.

They recovered the body near the shoreline at 7:23 a.m. on Tuesday. Officials believe the death was an accidental drowning and is not considered suspicious at this time.
