Anthropogenic global warming has raised daytime temperatures in Concord over 90 degrees Fahrenheit. I don’t remember temperatures this high for so long in my 82 years. Note that I wrote “anthropogenic” because it is man-made. Yes, WE are the cause of the global warming that is setting heat records across the U.S., especially in the southwest. I’m sure there are many readers who disagree … but let me explain: Global warming is caused by carbon dioxide in the upper atmosphere. CO2 is produced by burning wood, coal, gasoline and diesel fuel. The climate experts in China realize this and have begun converting power plants to solar panels. CO2 from combustion rises in the atmosphere and infrared radiation from the sun raises its temperature. So it gets lighter and rises further until it can’t go higher so it moves toward the equator. There, the warmed molecules sink, moving warmer air toward the poles, where it contributes to melting glaciers and warming U.S. Our president can’t understand this, so he wants to “drill, baby, drill.” Result, our world will get warmer and WE will suffer more hot weather.
