I write in support of the article, entitled “It’s Just Not Right” published at the end of July by former New Hampshire Supreme Court Chief Justice John Broderick, who was terminated from his position as the YDC Claims Administrator by Governor Ayotte. In short, I’m astonished. To remove a highly competent, well-respected individual from a position he was expertly managing for political gain is not the New Hampshire way. Yet there is no question that the former Chief has been sacrificed to partisan politics. The decision to remove him only serves to victimize the YDC victims, yet again, and installing a representative from the state to manage the claims process puts the fox directly in the hen house. I never thought I’d see the day when New Hampshire would mirror all the worst things about how our federal government is conducting itself right now, but here we are. In the current political climate, New Hampshire should lead in nurturing our democracy, not in removing the guardrails that will accelerate its demise. For the benefit of the YDC victims who are entitled to due process in reviewing their claims, and to reestablish what we have always stood for, the governor should restore John Broderick as the YDC claims administrator, immediately.
