Climate Action is Imperatur
The time for climate action is now. The science on global warming and man-made climate change is definitive and conclusive. And in light of the ensuing effects, we can no longer afford to ignore it. It’s been said before, but that does not make it less crucial.
The Antarctic ice sheet is diminishing beyond its ability to fulfill its ecological functions. Freshwater supply around the world is going away, and with it a direct and critical means of our survival. Animal species are becoming extinct at an increasing rate. Tornadoes, hurricanes and heat waves are building in intensity and frequency. Sea levels are rising, prompting many people to relocate.
There are, of course, articles and “experts” who deny these facts and counter them, but they are the work, directly or indirectly, of moneyed interests whose bottom lines depend on their disregard for the environment.
No amount of economic prosperity is worth these dangers. Money cannot create the oxygen we breathe or the water we drink. Our survival depends on a harmony between ourselves and the natural world. If you believe that the earth is too big for humans to touch, I ask you to consider this: the things we are capable of creating are more than able to affect the earth. Factories emitting carbon dioxide. Nuclear weapons. Oil spills. Put all of these together over the time and you get the picture.
No matter how much we have been reinforcing climate change over centuries, we must act now to fight it, because we only have one planet to live on, and the present moment is the only time we have.
