City shoots self in foot

Once again, the city of Concord has shot itself in the foot. Never mind the Employment Security building, that one stands apart from all the rest because of the sheer amount of money wasted. Who remembers when Mr. Duprey wanted to add height to one of his downtown buildings, but was denied because it would block the I-93 motorist from having a view of the capitol building. Can’t you just picture a person taking his family to a mountain vacation, looking over and seeing the “dome” and saying, “oh my god look at that, lets cancel our vacation plans and go see the golden dome!” Fat chance, but that is history.

No, now they want to put out of business a growing concern that is bringing people from all over the country to Concord so that people can continue to bike or walk to Concord from the area of the Hanna Dustin Monument. Tearing those tracks up will kill a booming rail rider experience that is getting more people and more popular every year.

The city has other options. One, with signage the could direct people to public streets for the 4 mile ride/walk to the city. Two, since the city already owns the sewer line right-of-way from Sewalls Falls Road to downtown Concord they could build a trail on that, either paved or dirt. Maybe from Hannah Dustin to Sewalls Falls Road they could pave between the rails. I don’t know, but I do know that killing a growing, tax-paying enterprise is idiocy.
