Secretary of State David Scanlan is absolutely right to deny the federal government access to our voter information. The only reason they are demanding this is for revenge purposes. Are they coming after registered Democrats next? What about the Undeclareds? Your article of August 30 states that the DOJ wants names, dates of birth, addresses and the last four digits of voters’ Social Security numbers or driver’s license numbers. I’d be surprised if most New Hampshirites want this information handed over to the vindictive DOJ. I know I don’t.
It’s comforting that even some of our Republican legislators oppose this obvious step toward voter suppression and authoritarian rule. New Hampshire is resisting in every way possible, though will our Republican Governor capitulate? Where do her loyalties lie? With the people of New Hampshire or Dear Leader Trump, who is now hanging big pictures of himself from buildings, just like Kim Jon-Un? It says everything that this administration admires all the dictators of the world and turns his back on our former allies. China will be the new world leader soon, backed by Russia and India, and we will be left out in the cold. The world has changed. Isolation and corruption do not result in strength and dominance — they signal the death of a civilization.
