On August 25th, the Toadstool Bookshop partnered with the Monadnock Sustainability Hub (MSH) and the Peterborough Renewable Energy Project (PREP) to host a book launch of Bill McKibben’s latest release, “Here Comes the Sun” and Alan Weisman’s “Hope Dies Last,” at the Peterborough Town House.
Third Act New Hampshire was also present to share information about upcoming events and climate actions surrounding “Sun Day” on September 21st.
The event at Toadstool was a revelation for me. I’m a climate activist. I’ve been fighting pipelines and lobbying for solar/wind projects for years. The national and statewide backsliding on energy efficiency and support for renewable energy projects has brought me to the brink of despair.
Don’t get me wrong, I don’t plan to give up. In fact, I recently finished electrifying my own life and powering it with 9.6 KW of solar power. But my efforts are just a drop in the bucket when what’s needed is systemic change and support for all people at any income level to capture free energy from the sun and wind.
Bill McKibben’s presentation gave me hope. Sunday, September 21st, marks the start of a clean energy revolution by “We, the people.” There’s a whole week of activities planned for the Monadnock region that will educate, inspire and engage people in taking steps to stabilize their own energy costs and provide a clean energy future for us all. Visit to learn how you can join the revolution!
