Please support Claremont schools
In an effort to put my money where my mouth is, I just wrote a check to the Claremont school system because I care about all students attending New Hampshire public schools. The reasons their district is in this financial jam are complex, but I don’t want the children to suffer from serious mismanagement and loss of funding.
Tens of millions are being siphoned away from our local schools to pay for private school tuition and home schooling. Taxpayers are now required to pay for those unaccountable programs on top of our obligation to keep our own local schools funded and professionally staffed.
For this unfair burden, we can blame Jason Osborne, Victoria Sullivan and all of the Republicans who voted in favor of this extravagant giveaway program that benefits wealthy families.
Our public officials, representing the lowest funded state in the nation, don’t seem eager to help. Maybe we can put them to shame by sending our support and contributions to the Claremont School District.
School voucher recipients might also consider donating those funds to kids who really need it in the midst of a school funding crisis. That would be a wonderfully Christian thing to do.
