Seriously? A Trump peace prize nomination?
A concerted effort to nominate President Trump for a Nobel Peace Prize is underway. President Trump’s second term actions and decisions defy any rationale for such efforts. Trump has sent ICE agents, National Guard and military deployments to U.S. communities against the wishes of local officials inciting unrest, fear and intimidation — openly defying due process and ignoring court rulings not to his liking. He has supported Israel in its destruction of Gaza and its orchestrated displacement of the Palestinian people. He has sided with Russian President Putin despite Putin’s aggressive attacks on Ukraine’s civilian population, hampering the fight for their nation’s sovereignty. He has arbitrarily targeted a Venezuelan boat in international waters without verifiable evidence to support his claims of purported acts of terrorism and alleged drug offenses. He has decided to rename the Department of Defense as the Department of War. Secretary of State Marco Rubio has not demonstrated statesmanship or diplomacy. Instead, Rubio dismantled peace keeping efforts throughout agencies such as USAID. Rubio’s announcements have been aggressive, echoing the hard-line policies of Trump, alienating our allies and “cozying up” to our adversaries. None of these actions or decisions represent peace. Instead we are in peril, less safe, less secure. In this volatile global environment, our nation deserves a Presidential Nobel Peace Prize winner. Unfortunately, Trump is not that president.
