Ayotte Goes to Canada for Help

Recently, Gov. Ayotte traveled to Canada to try and repair the severe economic damage cussed by Trump’s trade war and his belligerent talk about making Canada our 51st state. Canada is NH’s largest trading partner and the source of significant tourism, both of which are suffering because of Trump’s policies. Canadians are very upset about Trump’s comments. Canadians love their country and enjoy as much freedoms as Americans if not more, have low crime, little gun violence, universal health care, affordable education and live in a functioning democracy led by intelligent experienced respected people, unlike their neighbor to the south.

While I expect that the Canadians treated Ayotte with respect and courtesy, here was a Republican Governor who supported and still supports the person who caused all the problems she is now asking the Canadians to help her fix.

If Ayotte was seriously interested in repairing the damage caused by Trump’s policies, she went to the wrong place. Instead of trying to make political points by looking like she is doing something by going to Canada, she should have made a trip to Washington to tell Mr. Trump that his policies are doing severe economic damage to her state and to reverse course. Unfortunately, Ayotte seems to be too fearful of Mr. Trump and his base to stand up to him, so easier and safer to go to Canada and accomplish nothing that will change the reality.
