America – A shining city on a hill?
In the eyes of the world, America has lost all integrity and moral authority — Gaza is genocide pure and simple, aided and abetted by enormous U.S. economic, military and diplomatic support. Israel has killed at least 65,000 Palestinians, mostly woman, children and non-combatants. It uses systematic starvation, an internationally condemned war crime, as a tactic. It has killed at least 270 Palestinian journalists, preventing them from reporting facts on the ground which contradict the Israeli “narrative.”
Netanyahu and his Zionist zealots may succeed short term in “eradicating” Hamas, but this will only sow the seeds for other groups to arise. Calling out Israel does not excuse the immoral actions of other actors in the area, but doing to others what was done to you to prevent it from happening to you again, besides being morally bankrupt, is more likely to encourage the very conduct and bigotry you fear and condemn.
Gaza and much of Palestine has been pulverized. A two-state solution is meaningless when all that is left is rubble. My tax dollars have gone to arm and support a regime that intends to obliterate another people, and I’m forced to give to non-profits to address the devastation Israel has caused. Are we truly a “shining city on a hill”? Contact Congress to let them know this is not acceptable; not what America should be or stand for. Urge Congress to pass HB-3565 Block The Bombs Act, a small step towards Israel accountability.
