Abusive ICE Detention Policies
The Guardian, a British newspaper, has reported on terrible abusive conditions at California City, an ICE detention center run by the private corporation CoreCivic. Problems include filthy overcrowded cells, lack of access to medical care, and mistreatment by staff. While no one should be subjected to such treatment, it is also important to remember that over half of ICE detainees have no criminal records. (Unauthorized entry to the U.S. is a civil violation, not criminal.)
We must call on our Congressional delegation, including Jeanne Shaheen, Maggie Hassan, Maggie Goodlander and Chris Pappas, to demand a full investigation into conditions at California City and other ICE detention centers, as well as a halt to the unwarranted national roundup of immigrants who want only to work and live in peace.
