Senators, help protect our TPS holder neighbors

Senate bill 2106 should be a priority to help us not lose the important contributions to our communities of people who came here legally in the wake of humanitarian disasters. Many have lived here for decades, checking in with authorities regularly and showing that they are productive and law abiding. Most have had no path to change their temporary protected status due to partisan failure to pass enabling legislation.

The current administration has been trying to end TPS for many countries despite the losses this would impose on our businesses and the decreased tax collections. The regular renewal of TPS for many groups has had bipartisan support in the past because the countries these neighbors came from remain in dangerous conditions.

S. 2106 has 32 co-sponsors, but Senators Hassan and Shaheen are not yet among them. If they are working behind the scenes to convince colleagues on the other side of the aisle to join them (and know it is a better strategy not to have a bill promoted by the minority party alone), I am easy with that. But that would be the only reasonable explanation not to be a public part of the effort. I ask others to join me in calling the senators to ask them to work diligently on this.
