Ward 9, while geographically small, encompasses parts of the well-populated Concord Heights area along and north of Loudon Road, including Keach Park.

City council is a nonpartisan role, but both candidates have a political affiliation. Incumbent Kris Schultz is wrapping up her first term as a city councilor, and she’s spent many years in Democratic politics as an organizer and consultant. Challenging her is Andrew Georgevits, a lifelong resident who heads up a local Republican group. The two will set up a rematch from 2023.

Schultz is a longtime political organizer and consultant, having worked on Capitol Hill and for Democratic campaigns in New Hampshire. Locally, she spent 15 years as a supervisor of the checklist for Ward 9, and she served as president of the Greater Concord Interfaith Council from 2016 to 2018. She was elected as a state representative in 2022 to serve Concord’s fourth, ninth and tenth wards.

Georgevits has lived in Concord his entire life and has worked as a sales representative for an equipment rental company for the past decade. He is chairman of the Concord City Republican Committee and is involved with the Kiwanis Club of Concord.

Kris Schultz

Age: 55

Years living in Concord: 18

Top issues: Housing affordability/availability, property taxes and city spending, overall cost of living

Reason for running: “We are a wonderful city because of the people who live here. That Love Your Neighbor attitude far and away outnumbers anything else. Nothing matters more to me than that, and I think Concordians also want that from their public servants.”

Key point: “I am still unhappy with our budget from this past year, as in the end we just left it to the city manager to finish. I would have handled that very differently today. We desperately need to tax the uber-wealthy in our community while lowering taxes for the rest of us. The uber wealthy includes the big box stores that pay low wages.”

Top issues: Property taxes and city spending, homelessness, public safety and crime

Reason for running: “Government spending continues to climb, while the city is overrun with homeless camps. These items need to be addressed.”
