This week marked a definitive change in the seasons.

It’s that time of year again, when the air grows noticeably crisp to the point of cold, the kettle on my stove never truly cools and a mug of tea is never far from reach. I’ve begun wearing jackets, boots, skirts, tights and sweaters with a vengeance only attributable to my abiding love of autumn (and my desire to stay warm).

I’ve recommended numerous outdoor activities and events over the past few months, but this week I’m choosing to focus on indoor fun. There are ample opportunities to find yourself in community settings without having to bundle up and confront the reality that winter’s well on its way — whether we like it or not!

First, make yourself something soothing, or stop by your favorite coffee shop and pick up a hot drink, especially now that all the fall flavors have returned full force. I opt for chai lattes, but I always enjoy perusing the creative offerings found around town.

On Friday evening, Singer and guitarist Tyler Nail will perform at the Andover Community Coffeehouse at 7 p.m. The Coffeehouse is at the Highland Lake Grange Hall in East Andover. Up to five open-mic slots will be available on a first-come, first-served basis, and food will be available for purchase. Beyond that, admission is free, so why not spend your Friday evening there?

If you’re looking for entertainment, head to the Concord City Auditorium for a production of “Something Rotten, Jr.,” put on by The Children’s Theatre Project through the Community Players of Concord. The show will be performed on Friday at 7 p.m. and Saturday at 2 p.m. This production marks the start of the 30th season of children’s theater through the organization. Run don’t walk to get tickets (actually, just visit https://communityplayersofconcord.org/tickets). The show is guaranteed to make you laugh!

If you’re excited for spooky season, then this next one’s for you! On Saturday, go to the Concord Public Library for a Community Costume Swap between 9 a.m. and 3 p.m. If you don’t yet know what you want to dress up as for Halloween but are looking for a fun costume, then this is the place to be. Visit https://www.concordnh.gov/1983/Library to learn more.

To inject some movement into the weekend, why not try contra dancing? The City Wide Community Center is holding a Concord Contra Dance from 7-10 p.m. on Saturday evening. With caller Byron Ricker and music by Black Cat Quadrille, the event is geared towards beginners, singles, families and people of all ages. All dances will be taught. For tickets, visit https://concordnhcontra.wordpress.com/.

I know I promised indoor events, but here’s one outdoor activity that could float your fancy. Pittsfield’s Victory Workers 4-H Club is holding a Fall Festival on Saturday from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. at Dowboro Farm. It’s a great chance to celebrate the season and learn more about what the club members have been up to. There will be activities geared towards all ages, with free admission and donations of canned goods accepted to support the Pittsfield Food Pantry.

That’s all for now! Stay tuned for more soon!
