Lack of Common Courtesy
Over the past few years, I have attended a number of the Concord School Board meetings regarding Rundlett Middle School.
Last week was the last of the meetings. The Board listened with courtesy towards all speakers.
The same cannot be said of some of the speakers opposed to the proposed plans to replace Rundlett. I was disappointed in the way some of the speakers, many well-known in our community, spoke to the Board.
There were actually veiled threats against the Board if they were to vote in favor of replacement. There is no place for this type of rhetoric.
Years of research and planning have gone into assessing the conditions at Rundlett and the best solution to address the deficiencies. The building committee has spent countless hours trying to reduce the costs while still meeting the needs of the students, staff and our community in the 21st century.
The School Board members are elected to represent the community from our community. Even if you don’t agree with the 8-1 vote to replace the school, the Board members are due respect for the efforts they have invested in this process.
We all need to move forward now and embrace a new school that will serve our children for many years to come.
