Fragile Ceasefire – Israel-Gaza War

Whether a permanent cease-fire in the Israel-Gaza War is maintained remains to be seen. History has shown that brokered ceasefires have not been held or were difficult to maintain when one side’s conditions in an agreement were not fulfilled. Meanwhile the spirit of the Palestinian people remains one of resistance and persistence.

The Israeli Defense Forces have used access to food and medical care as a bargaining chip in ceasefire negotiations. Food restriction to a civilian population is a violation of international humanitarian law. During the two-year Israeli-Gaza War, approximately 400 secure food distribution sites were providing food and medical care to Palestinians in Gaza. In early 2025, Israel banned the aid system known as the UN Relief and Works Agency.

In May of 2025, another system was established entitled The Gaza Humanitarian Foundation backed by both the U.S. and Israel. The GHF network, however, only provided four distribution sites, three of which were co-located in offensive combat zones where the IDF was undergoing military operations.

As American taxpayers, we are currently providing funding used by the IDF and stand complicit in the treatment and dire conditions that remain in Gaza. Please contact your U.S. Senators Maggie Hassan and Jeanne Shaheen, and Representatives Maggie Goodlander and Chris Pappas. Urge each of them to end U.S. funding for weapons used by the IDF. Ask your representatives to sign on to H.R. 3565 which is called Block the Bombs Act.
