Brenna for Concord Ward 6
My wife, Brenna Kehew Sculley, is running for City Council from Ward 6. To state the obvious, I support her and will vote for her.
Brenna has a very kind heart, and she has done a great job of explaining to our young daughters the challenges homeless people face. Those conversations led Brenna to assemble kits comprised of things like small hygiene items (and yes, some small dollar bills) that we keep in our cars and hand out if we see someone in need, for example in a median at a traffic light. Our daughters now come to expect us to have one ready every time we see a person in need. She started this a long time ago, before she even thought of running for City Council. She has not told anyone about this, because she does not do kind things for self-serving purposes, or for attention. But I believe it’s OK for me to highlight it for her. Same with her donating time at the Friendly Kitchen. She has helped at a moment’s notice when others were unavailable.
She cares about the issue of homelessness, which is why she opposes a city-sanctioned homeless encampment. The last two years in Concord have shown that to be poor policy, which jeopardizes the safety of the very people who were, or would be, there. She believes a better way to help is to work with state and local organizations that offer services, or items, needed by the homeless.
