Let Them East Cake

According to Republican House Finance Chair Ken Weyler, “There are no hungry children in New Hampshire, in the schools.”

Honestly, what planet does he live on? One out of eight Americans receives an average of $187 a month in food assistance, with the majority of this aid helping to feed children and seniors. Does Representative Weyler seriously believe children in other states receive this critical support, but New Hampshire children are somehow immune to need?

Perhaps he should step outside his enclave of wealthy, entitled Republicans and engage with the people in Coos County, where the poverty rate is nearly 13%. Or Sullivan County, with a poverty rate of nearly 11%. Or even Hillsborough County, which, while having a lower percentage of poverty than the other two, has the highest number of people in poverty due to its large population. These are the children and families Rep. Weyler chooses to ignore.

Representative Ken Weyler, who holds the incredibly powerful position of Republican House Finance Chair, would rather ignore this demonstrable need than mix with the struggling families he is sworn to represent.

Let them eat cake!
