The man who died in a Penacook house fire on Saturday was the 77-year-old homeowner, Alexis Palmacci, officials announced.

Palmacci, who has owned the raised ranch hom on Rhodora Court with his wife Diane since 1986, died of smoke inhalation, the state’s medical examiner’s office determined. Concord firefighters responded to a medical alert at Palmacci’s house around 3:30 a.m.

They saw smoke emerging from the front door and, upon searching the home, found Palmacci already deceased. Firefighters also located a woman, who officials haven’t publicly identified, sleeping on a different floor of the three-bedroom house and rescued her without injury.

Palmacci’s death has been ruled accidental, and investigators found no operational smoke alarms on the floor of the house where the fire started. The state fire marshal’s office, the Concord Fire Department and the Concord Police Department are still investigating.

No firefighters were injured.
