Yes, let’s Make America Great Again

This is what I think about when I hear the slogan Make America Great Again. The year is 1973. Richard Nixon is President. I am starting my first year of law school in Boston. I have no money. I earn enough to get by participating in work/study and driving a cab on weekends. I live in a rent controlled apartment in Cambridge with three other students. I get food stamps. My tuition is $3,000 a year and I have a 3% student loan.

America was a great country as far as I was concerned. Look at all my safety nets: work/ study, rent controlled apartment, food stamps, affordable tuition and a loan with friendly terms. I succeeded because my great country invested in its youth. Can this happen today? I think not. Yes, let’s make America great again.
