DOJ Injustice
This week, a jury acquitted a man of a misdemeanor. The Trump DOJ had first attempted to indict this man on felony charges, but the Grand Jury disagreed and charged him with a misdemeanor. The crime this man was charged with was throwing a salami sandwich at a federal agent. The agent, who was wearing a bulletproof vest, claimed that the sandwich was thrown “at point blank range” and “exploded” when hitting the agent’s chest. Considering that this was a sandwich, it might be plausible to think that the agent considered the sandwich to be a torpedo.
The Trump Department of Justice recently declined to investigate a possible $50,000 bribe given to Tom Holman the White House Border Czar for attempting to steer federal contracts to a certain firm. The same Trump administration that pardoned 1,500 violent criminals who attacked the Capitol Jan. 6, 2021. An attack that caused the death of a capitol police officer and injured many more. And recently, Trump pardoned the former Tennessee Republican House speaker who was sentenced to prison on public corruption charges. Earlier, Trump pardoned another Tennessee Republican State Senator convicted on federal campaign finance charges. Then on 60 Minutes Trump admitted that “I don’t know who he is” when asked about his pardon of Changping Zhao, whose cryptocurrency firm was involved in money laundering which posed a significant threat to U.S. national security by allowing illicit funds to flow to Hamas, cybercriminals and child abusers.
These episodes show how Trump and his DOJ are making a mockery of our system of justice.
