Making America Great Again — really?
This is an open letter to the most ardent of the president’s supporters. Those who have been completely MAGAfied by his promises to Make America Great Again.
Since his second inauguration, the president’s personal fortune has increased by $3 billion as reported by Forbes. While the government was shut down, SNAP benefits were delayed, people were furloughed and even those working did so without pay. During that time. the president hosted a Gatsby-themed party for the wealthy at Mar-a-Lago, demolished part of the White House and the Rose Garden to make way for a ballroom, played golf and offered Argentina $10 billion and suggested the NFL name a football field after him. He also declined to take part in any type of negotiations. Though in the past he has repeatedly said he had “concepts” for fixing the health insurance issues.
Now that the government is reopened, aspects of the Big Beautiful Bill will kick in. The temporary subsidies for health insurance will end. Millions will lose coverage and others will have their payments go up so much as to affect their ability to pay other bills. But the temporary tax breaks for millionaires will become permanent.
So forgive me for being a skeptic but this doesn’t sound to me like Making America Great Again.
