Concord, NH – Susan (“Susie”) B. Leavitt, 83, of Concord N.H., passed away peacefully on November 6, 2025 at her residence in Concord, with her loving partner Doug Ponusky by her side.
Susie was born on March 29th, 1942, in Beverly, MA to parents Breinard and Rosalind (Burrage) Warren.
A graduate of Marblehead High School, Susie later became trained as a veterinary technician and surgical technician. After moving to New Hampshire, she worked at the Russell Animal Hospital in Concord, and later at McKerley’s Nursing Home, and then Concord Hospital, where she worked in Central Supply until retirement.
Susie married Patrick Leavitt in 1968, and together they had two children, Cole and Michelle, whom they raised in Contoocook, N.H. through the children’s school years. In 1984, Susie met her life partner, Doug Ponusky, with whom she enjoyed the last 41 years.
Susie is pre-deceased by her parents, and her brother-in-law Jim Olson. She is survived by her sister Polly Olson, children Cole Leavitt, and wife Karen; daughter Michelle Ferris and husband David; four grandchildren; a niece and a nephew; and one great-grandson.
Susie and Doug went on many outings together over the years, traveling to camps in the country and to Wells Beach in Maine. Susie enjoyed the ocean, and one of Cole and Michelle’s favorite memories was of Susie taking them to York Beach Arcades in Maine.
Susie loved all animals and always had an immediate connection with them. Her dog, “Pita” was her constant companion in her later years. She was an accomplished equestrian and would ride whenever she had a chance. Her horse “Inky”, was her favorite of all time. She always said, “I’ll ride him again someday in heaven”.
A woman of deep faith, Susie personified the Christian spirit. She will be remembered as a person who never said an unkind word.
A private memorial service will be arranged at a later date.
