Support and defend the Constitution

Every member of our Military begins service with a pledge to “support and defend the Constitution of the United States of America from all enemies, foreign and domestic.”
It was disappointing to read LTC Michael Moffett’s piece deriding Maggie Goodlander for reminding our military that it is their duty to follow the law and refuse illegal orders.
It would seem that Mr. Moffett has forgotten his oath.

Reminding people of the Law is neither seditious nor disappointing. It is, sadly, necessary. American troops are deployed U.S. cities. ICE has imprisoned American citizens. The president has called for the hanging of Members of Congress.

Mr. Moffett implies that Goodlander’s statements will lead to a U.S. equivalent to the Russian Order #1. He is following the right’s strategy of influence through ignorance.

A better example would be the Soviet soldiers who, in 1991, refused the orders of the Soviet Coup perpetrators. Their actions saved lives and ended the Soviet Union. Had soldiers stood up to illegal orders, there would be no My Lai massacre and no Abu Ghraib.

The president has done everything he’s stated he would. His statements are not examples of “bear poking.” They are examples of a delusional narcissist attempting to subvert the Constitution for his own personal and political gain.

I encourage Mr. Moffett to remember his oath. Support and defend the Constitution, not the occupant of the White House.
