We need to look deeper
On Dec. 25th, many people in the world celebrated the real meaning of Christmas, the birth of Jesus Christ. He whose mission and teachings were to bring love, compassion, patients, healing and service to others, especially those in need. When one looks at the condition of the world today, it appears that those teachings have been forgotten.
As we begin this new year, let’s stop looking at the headlines and look deeper. Is that true? I see much more. I see food pantries, food kitchens, food banks, commercially organized and also many normal, run of the mill people feeding those in need. I see the Salvation Army, Red Cross, Catholic Relief Services, Lutheran Services and many other organizations and ordinary people rushing to the aid of any disaster, all over the world, whether natural or man-made. I see Doctors Without Borders, the Mercy Ship and many known and unknown, large and small organizations spread all over the globe providing medicine, water, electricity, education, clothing, food, homes and who knows what else to help the poor and needy.
The headlines have forgotten to look deeper and find — the teachings of Jesus have NOT been forgotten by millions of citizens of the world He came to save.
