Concord police and fire crews responded to a homeless encampment in the city early Friday morning after a 911 caller reported that a baby was unconscious and not breathing.

Around 1:30 a.m., emergency crews were dispatched to an encampment off Sheep Davis Road. When officers arrived, they found a stillborn baby boy who had just been delivered, according to the Concord Police Department.

Police also said the baby was born prematurely. 

The mother, in her early 20s, was taken to Concord Hospital to be assessed for any injuries.ย 

The investigation remains open as authorities await toxicology results to determine the cause of the babyโ€™s death.ย 

Police said there is no suspicion of foul play at this time.
