Hooksett, NH – Alphonse P. DiCicco, 89, a resident of Hooksett for 59 years, passed away on January 11, 2026 after a period of declining health. He was born on February 5, 1936 in Concord, NH to Alphonse P. DiCicco, Sr. and Florence J. (Wright) Dargie.
Alphonse “Al” graduated from Concord’s St. John’s High School in 1954, where he enjoyed playing on the baseball, football and basketball teams. He particularly enjoyed and excelled at his position of catcher on his high school baseball team, as well as on Concord’s American Legion and Sunset League teams.
After serving in the U.S. Army and Army Reserves, Al graduated from the University of New Hampshire’s Whittemore School of Business in 1962. He then began his career in Information Technology as a computer programmer at Pratt & Whitney Aircraft, E. Hartford, CT. Al was hired by Blue Cross/Blue Shield in Concord, NH in 1966, where he was a programmer/analyst and provided computer technical support for 28 years until his retirement.
Al held fond memories of his Italian grandparents who helped raise him during the difficult years surrounding WWII. Al was only 9 years old in 1945 when his father perished in the war. Losing his father at such a young age impressed upon him the importance of his role of husband and father — and later, grandfather and great-grandfather. He was devoted to his entire family and actively supported their endeavors. He never missed a special event.
Al was an avid reader. He was also interested in New England sports, photography and aviation. He was a captivating storyteller with a great sense of humor. He had an innate sense of decency and treated everyone he met with kindness and respect. He and his wife, Claire, enjoyed spontaneous drives to the Seacoast and to the Lakes Region. They also took many road trips to various destinations across the country.
In addition to his parents, Al was predeceased by his stepfather, Amedie Dargie; brother, Joseph “Freddy” DiCicco; half-sister, Ann Michaud; son-in-law, Barry Nelson.
Al is survived by his wife of 63 years, Claire (Desmarais) DiCicco of Hooksett; children Lori (Frank) Clougherty of Manchester, Lisa (Ed) Morgan of Dayton ME and Benjamin Nelson of Pembroke; grandchildren J.T. (Karen) Compeau, Kerry (Alex) Broulidakis, Stephanie, Kyle and Milly Morgan; great-grandchildren Will, Max, Eli and Theo, as well as several nieces and nephews.
A period of visitation will be held on Monday, January 26, 2026 from 11AM to 12PM at Holy Rosary Catholic Church, 21 Main Street, Hooksett. A Mass of Christian Burial will immediately follow at 12PM. Due to severe chemical allergies within Al’s family, the family respectfully requests that guests avoid wearing fragrances. Interment will be held in the spring at Holy Rosary Cemetery, Hooksett.
In lieu of flowers, donations in Al’s memory may be made to the Hooksett Community Food Pantry, 35 Main St., Hooksett, NH 03106.
