Unity , ME – Alan Reed McCready, 82, of Unity, ME, passed away on January 15, 2026. Born in Newport, RI and raised in South Boston, MA, moving to New Hampshire with his family in 1974. He served in the Massachusetts National Guard from 1962 to 1968, receiving an Honorable Discharge.
Alan was predeceased by his wife, Mona (Blake) McCready, parents, Helen (Donovan) and William McCready. He is survived by his sister, Michaele A. McGahan; Janice Gallagher, mother of his children; his daughter, Marie Pinto and her husband, Anthony, and their daughter, Meghan Quinn; his son, Alan W. McCready and his wife, Lilly, and his children, Brittany, Mariah and Shayna Austin, and Jacob McCready; his daughter, Donna Nicholson and her husband, John, and their daughters, Danielle DiPietro, Taylor Baxter, and Sarah Long; and his daughter, Kristen Hayes and her husband, Scot, and their sons, Donovan and Logan Hayes. He leaves 13 great grandchildren.
Alan retired from the City of Concord, NH Highway Department in 2006. Before retiring, he was an EMT and firefighter with the Center Barnstead Fire Department and taught fire and rescue safety for many years. An avid fisherman, he worked as a fishing instructor with both the New Hampshire and Maine Fish and Game. Most recently, he drove Van1 on the Ecology Learning Center's Belfast route.
A talented woodworker, Alan created handcrafted pieces cherished by family and friends. A celebration of life will be held in early summer.
